2. Guatemalan counterinsurgency Kaibiles members have been detected in the Zetas.
3. Rivals are the Cártel de Sinaloa and la Familia Michoacana
4. An Italian Mafia connection was documented in the book “Contacto en Italia” by Mexcian author Cynthia Rodíguez. She alleges a connection between the Zetas and the Calabrese Mafia “Ndrangheta”. Italian authorities have asked the Mexican government to investigate the alleged connection.
